State Rep. Campbell calls for lower health insurance premiums for Hoosier families
INDIANAPOLIS - State Rep. Chris Campbell (D-West Lafayette), Democratic member of the House Standing Committee on Financial Institutions and Insurance, renewed her call for affordable health insurance for Hoosier families following a report that premium rates are rising faster than those of inflation and wages.
According to a recent report from the Indianapolis Business Journal, premiums for family coverage under employer-sponsored health insurance have increased by 47% over the past decade. In comparison, the rates of inflation and wages have risen 19% and 31% respectively.
“For 3.5 million Hoosiers, employer-sponsored health insurance is the only affordable option,” Campbell said.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has strained every aspect of Hoosier budgets and now working families are facing the very real possibility of not being able to afford their health insurance, even with their employers' help. Improving the health of our state and our constituents should be a top priority for all state leaders. As we move into the 2022 Legislative Session, I will support legislation that works to lower health insurance and promotes equitable access to health care.”
