State Rep. Beck provides community information with “COVID-19 Economic Effects on Northwest Indiana” webinar

INDIANAPOLIS – Yesterday, State Representative Lisa Beck (D-Lakes of the Four Seasons) co-hosted a panel of local experts to discuss the wide-ranging impact COVID-19 has had on Northwest Indiana. The webinar, which was free and open to the public, was hosted by Indiana University Northwest in conjunction with the University's Center for Economic Education and Research (CEER).

Appearing alongside Beck were co-host Micah Pollack (Associate Professor of Economics-Indiana University Northwest), Adam Mueller (Director of Advocacy-Indiana Legal Services), Sara Adams (Assistant Professor of Nursing-Indiana University Northwest), Brian Tabor (President-Indiana Hospital Association), Peter Karonis (General Manager-Southlake Mall) and (Breanne Zolfo-Owner/President Café Fresco/Community Love). 

“Northwest Indiana's businesses, nonprofits and residents have been facing uncertain times like the rest of the world in the midst of COVID-19,” Beck said. “However, we find our strength when we come together. This webinar was an opportunity for local leaders to share how the pandemic has affected their respective sectors in private and public industries, health care, retail and government. 

Most importantly, it gave residents of Northwest Indiana the chance to have their questions answered directly by trusted local experts and community leaders.”

Each panelist gave a presentation on the status of their respective industry and shared helpful information, data and statistics to viewers. The webinar ended with a short Q&A session with participation open to the public.

“Accurate information is essential to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 in our communities,” Beck said. “I'm proud to have helped convene this panel, and hope it can be used as a tool to provide both relief and resources to Northwest Indiana.”
