State Dietetics Association names Shackleford its Food and Nutrition Policy Legislator of the Year
INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. Robin Shackleford (D-Indianapolis) received the Food & Nutrition Policy Legislator of the Year Award from the Indiana Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (IAND) during “Dietitians Day” at the Statehouse today (March 14).
Today’s 2018 “Dietitians Day” at the Statehouse celebrated the work of dietitians as they connect with Indiana leaders to discuss the health and well-being of Hoosiers.
This award is given to a member of the Indiana General Assembly or other elected official. The awardee must have exhibited support at the state level for efforts to change, improve and strengthen public policy particularly in areas of nutrition, food, healthcare, and public health, or be in a position to impact policy issues important the dietitians across the state of Indiana.
Shackleford, an Indiana University graduate and champion for a healthier Indiana, was recognized for her work on the following bills, among other initiatives:
- HB 1411 New markets healthy food access investment credit
- HB 1175 Diabetes reporting
- HB 1344 Pregnancy and childbirth discrimination
- HB 1345 Prescription drug pricing study
- HB 1001 Education funding
- HB 1007 Expanding mental health access
“The health and well-being of Hoosier families is of critical importance to me and should always be a priority for the Indiana General Assembly,” Shackleford said.
“I am honored to receive this award and greatly appreciate the important work of our state’s dietitians and the Indiana Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.”
The Indiana Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (Indiana Academy or IAND), formerly the Indiana Dietetic Association, is a non-profit association made up of more than 1300 dietetic professionals in various settings, including Registered Dietitians (RD), Dietetic Technicians Registered (DTR), and Dietetic Students. The Indiana Academy is an affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics and has been serving citizens of Indiana since 1923.
