INDIANAPOLIS - Today, State Rep. Mike Andrade (D-Munster) offered an amendment to House Bill 1001 (ss) that would have granted both retired and active-duty military servicemen and -women and seniors an extra $75 in addition to the proposed $225 tax refund. Republicans defeated the amendment 53-36.
“We can never thank those who are serving or who have served our country enough,” Andrade said.
“That’s why I wanted to give them additional support today as we give our Hoosier state economic relief. Additionally, seniors are often on a fixed income and are thus having a more difficult time getting by during this hard time. With our $6.1 billion surplus, I think Indiana’s coffers would have been perfectly fine had we passed this amendment today.”
