Rep. Melanie Wright appointed to powerful Ways and Means Committee
INDIANAPOLIS – Representative Melanie Wright (D-Yorktown) has been selected by Indiana House Democratic Leader Terry Goodin from Austin to serve on the House Ways & Means Committee.
Ways & Means is the primary House committee dealing with fiscal issues. It serves as the starting point for discussion and debate on a biennial state budget.
“I am very honored and excited to be serving on this committee,” Rep. Wright commented. “I have had a lot of experience in this field, such as negotiating contracts for Daleville Community School Corporation as a teacher-leader. I am especially looking forward to be working in the area of funding for education.
“As a teacher, I am always concerned that the state make every effort to ensure that all Hoosier schoolchildren get the chance to receive a quality education, and the Ways & Means Committee is a key element in those efforts,” she added. “I am honored that Leader Goodin appointed me to such a prestigious committee.”
Rep. Wright also serves on three other standing committees: ranking minority member for the Agriculture & Rural Development Committee; a member of the Family, Children, & Human Affairs Committee; and a member of the Commerce, Small Business & Economic Development Committee.
