Rep. Macer leads recognition of Girl Scout Day at the Statehouse
INDIANAPOLIS – Representative Karlee Macer (D-Speedway) led Indiana House members in recognizing March 19 as Girl Scout Day at the Indiana Statehouse to commemorate the 107th anniversary of Girl Scouts of the United States of America. This is the third time that Macer has hosted Girl Scout Day at the Statehouse.
More than 100 Girl Scouts from troops throughout Indiana visited the Statehouse to hear remarks from Macer, Indiana Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch, Chief Justice Loretta Rush, Representative Cherrish Pryor (D-Indianapolis), Senator Jean Breaux (R-Indianapolis), and Girl Scouts of Central Indiana’s Chief Executive Officer Danielle Shockey. The Girl Scouts also toured the Statehouse, and talked with women who work in a variety of roles at the Statehouse.
“Research shows that girls learn best in a supportive, all-girl, girl-led environment,” Macer said. “This organization provides an opportunity for girls to work together and create lasting bonds and skills that will support them throughout their life. It is extremely important that girls learn in an environment where they are valued, accepted, and challenged to better themselves and the society they live in.”
Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. is a leadership organization for girls of all backgrounds and interests who want to develop the courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place.
Ninety percent of Americans believe out-of-school programs like Girl Scouts play an important role in helping girls succeed.
“More than 50 million women, including myself, are Girl Scout alumnae, and there are 2.6 million current members,” Macer said. “The Girl Scouts motto is ‘be prepared.’ There is no question that this organization is preparing young girls across Indiana to become the future leaders of our communities.”
