Rep. Lawson’s legislation to improve community corrections advances to governor for final OK
INDIANAPOLIS — Legislation coauthored by State Rep. Linda Lawson (D-Hammond) to improve the quality of Indiana community corrections has advanced to the governor’s desk for further consideration.
House Bill 1102 passed through the Senate with minor changes which were approved unanimously today by House members. The bill would increase collaboration between local criminal justice agencies as they work to make changes to Indiana community corrections.
“This legislation takes positive action to improve Indiana community corrections by ensuring that individuals, who are in the system, receive the health and addiction treatment they need to make a clean transition into society,” said Lawson. “I am so pleased to see the widespread support that this bill obtained. I am positive that, should this bill be signed into action, we will begin to see real advancement in Indiana’s community corrections.
“This legislation will play a vital role in ensuring the widespread collaboration of members of the corrections community and improving the overall system,” commented Lawson.
