Rep. Karlee Macer named to influential House leadership position
INDIANAPOLIS—State Rep. Karlee Macer (D-Speedway) has been appointed to a leadership position with the Indiana House Democrats, a move that will allow the caucus to capitalize on her history as a bipartisan legislator and highlight her ability to coach and support new members.
In her role as Assistant House Democratic Leader, Macer will be responsible for assisting Leader Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne) in creating policy priorities, generating support for bipartisan legislation and working to support caucus initiatives throughout Indiana.
“Rep. Macer will be an invaluable part of our leadership team this session by mentoring a large class of freshman caucus members and reaching across the aisle to identify common ground on legislation,” GiaQuinta said. “She has worked tirelessly throughout her legislative career to improve the quality of life for Hoosiers living in District 92. You can expect the House Democratic Caucus to follow that example as we seek to build consensus around policies that improve the standard of living for working families across Indiana.”
Macer, first elected in 2012, has a proven bipartisan track record of working to improve the quality of life for Hoosiers throughout the state. She focuses on serving our veterans and law enforcement officers, advocating for children in the foster care system, and working to increase funding for agencies such as Adult Protective Services.
“It has been an honor to serve the members of my community,” said Macer. “ I look forward to continuing the work we’ve started and utilizing this new position to work across the aisle and help pass legislation that will help Hoosier families. By building strong relationships, and working together for the common good of our state, I believe that we can have a successful legislative session in which the needs of our communities remain our first priority.”
Macer says her focus in this new position will be on promoting policy that improves the lives of all Hoosiers and advocating for a wide array of policy initiatives that improve the standing of families state-wide.
