Rep. Gregory W. Porter and Indiana House honor WTLC-FM on its 50th anniversary

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana House members today joined Representative Gregory W. Porter (D-Indianapolis) in honoring Indianapolis radio station WTLC-FM, founded by Dr. Frank Lloyd, for its 50th anniversary.

“I am glad to be able to help celebrate 50 years of accomplishment and work that was put in by the staff of the WTLC-FM group,” Rep. Porter said.

“During its first 50 years, WTLC has had incredible management and talent, including Jay Johnson, Al Hobbs, Russ Dodge, Amos Brown, Liz Dixson, and so many others,” Rep. Porter added. “I am happy to have the opportunity to help honor them.”

WTLC-FM Radio is known as “Indy’s R&B Leader” and has been honored with numerous awards for its broadcasting excellence, such as the Billboard Magazine and Black Radio Exclusive MagazineStation of the Year Award, and the Indianapolis Broadcasters Association Station of the Year in 2006.

The radio station has been the recipient of numerous awards for its community and public service, including: The Convoy of Hope, the Indianapolis Broadcasters Association 2017 Cardinal Awards for Black Santa, and revitalization projects of Wes Montgomery Park and other parks around the city.

WTLC-FM has also raised millions of dollars through its work with the Mozel Sanders Thanksgiving Dinner. It also has helped raise funds for the United Negro College Fund, St. Jude Hospital, the NAACP, Operation PUSH, and Martin University.

“WTLC-FM has done so much community and public service for its listeners,” Rep. Porter commented. “I am happy to help honor them for being on the air for 50 years, and I am looking forward to 50 years more.”
