Purdue projects gain key approval from the Indiana State Budget Committee
INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. Sheila Klinker (D-Lafayette) said the State Budget Committee approved three Purdue University West Lafayette campus projects during the committee’s meeting in Richmond today (Oct. 17).
The $10 million dollars will be used for the renovation of laboratory space in one building and for electrical upgrades in two other buildings.
“Purdue University officials explained in detail the importance of the projects,” said Klinker, who serves on the State Budget Committee. “The Biochemistry Building Annex will have a $4 million renovation of existing lab space on the third floor. The work will bring the lab up to current university standards.
“In addition, the Horticulture and Physics buildings will each have $3 million invested in major electrical upgrades,” continued Klinker.
“It is critical that Purdue continue improvements to its buildings so students will be able to learn in state-of-the-art labs. Equally important is to make sure the university’s buildings have their electrical systems upgraded. Safety and energy efficiency must always remain priorities for Purdue and the other state universities.”
The Horticulture Building will have its power and lighting sub-distribution switchboard replaced, which will include the electrical distribution system and the high voltage vault.
The Physics Building will have its electrical distribution system replaced throughout the building.
