Pryor’s co-authored bill keeps money in the hands of Hoosiers

- Today, the Indiana House of Representatives passed State Rep. Cherrish Pryor’s (D-Indianapolis) co-authored bill to increase the state earned income tax credit. House Bill 1290 raises the rate to 12%, instead of the current rate of 10%, ensuring that money stays in the pockets of hard-working Hoosier families.

“Increasing the earned income tax credit (EITC) is a win for all Hoosiers,” Pryor said. “This expansion directly helps working class Hoosiers by providing more money in the pockets of Hoosiers when they get their tax return. When working class families have more money in their pockets, they spend it and that goes into the economy. The EITC lifts people out of poverty and provides them with security, dignity and a safety net.

“Today’s meaningful strides are a step in the right direction to make this an economy that works for everyone. I will remain vigilant as this legislation heads to the Indiana Senate.”
