Porter calls attention to ongoing issues with FSSA transition
Ranking House Ways and Means Committee Democrat Gregory W. Porter (D-Indianapolis) released the following statement regarding the waitlist for the Family Social Services Administration’s (FSSAA) Aged and Disabled Waiver:
“I’ve been outspoken about my worries for the FSSA transitions taking place on July 1st. They’re switching Hoosier families to new plans and programs but have shown little preparedness. Now, our Hoosier families are being waitlisted for the A&D Waiver which is vital for the care they provide to their medically complex loved ones. The FSSA promised that an additional 5,000 A&D Waiver slots will open, but we’ve received no information on how long families must wait for approval. This is further evidence that July 1st will be a potential trainwreck.
“Waitlisting families for a waiver that provides life-saving care is absolutely heartbreaking. It puts lives in the crossfire of budgetary and organizational mismanagement. Cost-cutting measures are being implemented as quickly as possible at the detriment of Indiana’s most vulnerable. Once again, I’m calling on the FSSA, the governor and the majority party to give these families what they need. Let’s ensure all Hoosiers have the ability to live an independent and fulfilling life.”
