INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana House Democratic Leader Scott Pelath from Michigan City will be giving out free tree seedlings at the Michigan City Farmer’s Market starting at 10:30 a.m. (local time) on Saturday (June 6).

The market is located at the corner of 8th and Washington Streets in the parking lot behind the First Presbyterian Church.

“Each year, state lawmakers partner with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to give away tree and shrub seedlings for free to promote creating and maintaining a healthy environment,” Pelath said. “I will be passing out some of these seedlings at Michigan City’s Farmer’s Market on Saturday. The seedlings will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and I’ll be there until they are gone.

“I always like to take part in activities like this that encourage families to work on a project together, especially when they have the lasting impact of planting a tree,” he continued.

“I am reminded of the old saying: You don’t plant a tree for yourself. You plant it for posterity.”
