Miller: Using Hoosier National Guardsmen as political props shameful move for the governor
State Rep. Kyle Miller (D-Fort Wayne) issued the following statement today regarding Gov. Eric Holcomb's recent announcement that members of the Indiana National Guard will be sent to Texas to guard the US-Mexico border:
“Gov. Holcomb using Hoosier National Guardsmen as political props is a shameful move. This border controversy is a longstanding culture war and dog-whistle continuously initiated by Republicans from around the country. It was sadly just a matter of time before Gov. Holcomb answered the call.
“It should always be a last resort to send troops away from their homes and families, and the issues happening at the border do not warrant Hoosiers being called to action. This is an egregious stunt from the governor, and I'm calling on him to reverse course and keep our Hoosier troops here in Indiana until an actual emergency warrants their deployment.”
