News & Media

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana House Democratic Leader Scott Pelath from Michigan City announced today that Mark GiaQuinta from Fort Wayne has been appointed to the Indiana Charter School Board.

GiaQuinta will serve a four-year term on the board, which is designed to authorize charter schools throughout Indiana. The group reviews charter proposals, monitors the performances of these schools, and makes decisions on whether to renew, not renew, or revoke the charters.

“Mark GiaQuinta has a vast and diverse history of community service, particularly in the area of education, and I believe his insights and energy will be valuable as we review the continued growth of the charter school industry in our state,” Pelath said. “He is one of the very smartest people I know.”

GiaQuinta has had a law practice in Fort Wayne since 1979. He is a former member and past president of the Fort Wayne Community School Board. For his work in education, GiaQuinta was named Fort Wayne Citizen of the Year in 2015. He served on the Fort Wayne Common Council from 1979 to 1995 and the St. Joseph Hospital Board from 1983 to 1995. GiaQuinta also was a member of the Indiana Government Efficiency Commission and the Distressed Unit Appeals Board.
