Klinker recieves Bernie Flowers Award for her contributions to amatuer atheltics from the National Football Foundation
Sunday, June 9, State Rep. Sheila Klinker (D-Lafayette) was awarded the Bernie Flowers Award for Contribution to Amateur Sports. The award was presented by the Joe Tiller Chapter of Northwest Indiana of the National Football Foundation for her lifelong commitment to community causes and organizations in Greater Lafayette.
Rep. Klinker released the following statement regarding the award:
“I’m extremely grateful to have been selected for this monumental award from the National Football Foundation. This award was named for Bernie Flowers who was a Purdue University All-American tight end in 1952. I had the pleasure of teaching all the Flowers children in grade school, and I remember him and his family fondly. His wife, Adele, attended the ceremony and sat next to me.
“Being an active and engaged member of our community is something that I greatly treasure. Community service is important since it passes life skills on to our youth and promotes good will and collaboration. As an elected official, my responsibilities do not focus solely on the Statehouse. I believe that attending local events, including sporting events, is essential. Sports bring people together and build community. I am proud to call Greater Lafayette my home, and I want to thank my community for their endless trust and support. I will continue to advocate for the Greater Lafayette area and its sports activities at all levels.”
