Klinker comments on water bills’ death in committee
During the 2024 legislative session, multiple bills have been proposed surrounding water management: the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) and the potential LEAP pipeline. None of the bills regarding LEAP have received a hearing in committee preventing them from a vote on the House floor. State Rep. Sheila Klinker (D-Lafayette) released the following statement:
“I’m deeply disappointed that the two water regulations bills were denied a committee hearing. Our community has had many local, bipartisan meetings to voice their concerns and opinions. We’ve united on this issue, and local leadership has fought tirelessly for our community. It’s a controversial issue that House leadership has pushed to the back of their minds since there’s a nine-month moratorium. I've never seen such deep bipartisan unification, and I’m thankful for the support of my colleagues across the aisle. While I’m disappointed that I will be unable to testify on the House floor, I will continue to voice my concerns at local meetings. I applaud my community for their work on this issue, and I’m thankful I represent such a dedicated and committed group of people.
