Klinker comments on Lafayette City Council LEAP resolution
State Rep. Sheila Klinker (D-Lafayette) issued the following statement regarding the unanimous passage of the Lafayette City Council resolution against the LEAP water transfer.
“I’ve been a member of the Lafayette community since I started my teaching degree at Purdue University. When I graduated, I decided to raise my family here, and I’ve cherished every second of it. As a longtime advocate and member of the community, I’m pleased that the City Council unanimously passed their resolution against the water transfer. Local leadership has acted in the best interests of our area and moved to protect our aquifer. We need more transparency and a third-party study.
“I’d like to thank each member of the City Council for their devotion to our community. The current Council President, Lauren Ahlersmeyer, is a kindergarten teacher. She’s living proof that teachers are a vital part of local leadership. I’d also like to thank Mayor Roswarski. He’s been pushing for more transparency since the beginning, and he is working with nearby city leadership.
‘Personally, I’d like to thank my son, Councilman Kevin Klinker, who voted in favor of this resolution. I’m proud of him for fighting for our community. I hope that we continue to speak out about the transfer until we have the answers we need.”
