Klinker comments on federal funds to improve school safety
This week, the Lafayette School Corporation (LSC) announced that it had received a $400,000 federal grant through the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. The funding will expand critical mental health services to promote a safer, more inclusive school environment. State Rep. Sheila Klinker (D-Lafayette) offered the following celebratory statement:
“I’ve always believed that education starts with a healthy support system. By supporting our teachers and our youth, we motivate our students to do well inside and outside of the classroom. For years, I taught sixth to eighth grade in the Lafayette School Corporation. It is a blessing that LSC received this grant, and I know it will have a positive impact. The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act is a new program. Nothing like this has occurred before, but this funding is desperately needed to support young students, especially in today’s world. This is a huge triumph for our youth, our LSC educators, and the city of Lafayette. I’d like to thank the federal government for these Bipartisan Safer Communities Act dollars. It is coming at a very important period to help our teachers maintain a safer environment in our schools and classrooms.”
