Today, February 27, five teachers from the Tippecanoe County area are being recognized with the Golden Apple Award for their exceptional dedication to education. This year's recipients are William Huston from Jefferson High School, Sarah Emerson from Dayton Elementary School, John Levy from West Lafayette Jr/Sr High School, Macy Shanklin from Edgelea Elementary School and Megan Keller from Mayflower Mill Elementary School. All five teachers were nominated for the award by students, administrators or parents for their impact on their communities.

State Rep. Sheila Klinker (D-Lafayette) released the following congratulatory statement:

“I'd like to personally extend my congratulations to these five teachers for winning the Golden Apple Award. I am familiar with the dedication and passion that drives our educators. I am pleased to award these five outstanding educators for the extra level of care and support they put into their students. I'm even more pleased to see a beloved coworker and neighbor, Bill Huston, recognized for his efforts. It is an honor to represent such outstanding teachers and a community that values their profession.

“The Golden Apple Award is a particularly special award for our educators. They are nominated by their fellow teachers, principals, parents and their own students. As a former educator, I know the weight the Golden Apple carries. It is an award from the public and from the community. To the five Golden Apple recipients and to all educators who pour their hearts into the foundational practice of shaping our youth: your contribution to our communities is deeply appreciated. This award is a testament to your invaluable efforts.”
