INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne) has announced the appointment of State Representative Blake Johnson (D-Indianapolis) as the Ranking Democrat on the Indiana House Rules and Legislative Procedures Committee.

The Ranking Minority Member of a committee serves the caucus within the Indiana House of Representatives. The position will be a critical liaison and partner to state representatives and leadership in both caucuses.

“State Representative Johnson is well equipped to serve this legislative body with fair and pragmatic leadership on the House rules committee,” GiaQuinta said. “His past experiences on the Indianapolis City-County Council combined with an impressive first term indicate he’ll hit the ground running as we embark on another budget session. I’m confident in his abilities to work with members from both caucuses to find solutions to make this governing body a place that functions best for Hoosiers.”

“It is an honor to serve in this leadership role on the committee and I would like to thank the Leader for this opportunity,” Johnson said. “A healthy legislative body is one that has fair and thorough procedures to follow throughout the lawmaking process to ensure transparency and accountability of all involved. That’s why I am committed to working with my colleagues both within my caucus and across the aisle to ensure that our democratic operations are as equal and active as possible.”

The 2023 legislative session begins on Monday, January 9th at 1:30 PM.
