STATEHOUSE – Today the 50th anniversary of the Atterbury Job Corps and IndyPendence Job Corps Centers was recognized by the Indiana House of Representatives. State Rep. Cherrish Pryor (D-Indianapolis) presented House Resolution 31 thanking them for their dedicated service to Indiana’s economically-disadvantaged youth.

For the last 50 years, Job Corps has been providing students with the skills they need to succeed in today’s workforce. The program works with national and local employers to provide them with entry-level employees and, in turn, the employers help students prepare for careers.

“Job Corps gives participating students a chance at a better, more productive life,” Pryor said.

“Young people ages 16 through 24 can gain valuable work experience through mock interviews and work-based learning internships.”

Atterbury Job Corps has partnered with business and community organizations, including The American Red Cross, The United Way, TJ Maxx, The Westin Hotel, and Ivy Tech, to provide work-based internships for their students.

“Over 1,000 young Hoosiers come through the doors of the Atterbury and IndyPendence Job Corps Centers each year,” noted Pryor.

“Impressively, there is a 91-percent placement rate in higher education, employment, advanced training programs, or military careers.”

The Atterbury Job Corps Center is located in Edinburgh about 35 miles south of Indianapolis. IndyPendence Job Corps, Atterbury’s satellite, is a female-only center located in downtown Indianapolis.
