Indiana Military Veterans Legislative Day returns to the Statehouse

IBLC, News & Media

INDIANAPOLIS - After going virtual in 2021, the 8th annual Indiana Military Veterans Legislative Day (IMVLD) will return to the Statehouse on Monday, January 10. The event is a bipartisan effort with this year’s sponsors State Rep. Renee Pack (D-Indianapolis) and State Sen. Jim Tomes (R-Wadesville) joining IMVLD founder, State Rep. John L. Bartlett (D-Indianapolis), in honoring the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Hoosier veterans are invited to the Statehouse for the day’s events which will include remarks from Bartlett, Pack and Tomes, a review of legislation related to veterans affairs currently being considered by the General Assembly and a rendition of “God Bless the U.S.A.” by Jim Bewley.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit information booths from several veterans organizations. These organizations will have information on local resources and programs specifically serving Hoosier veterans.

The day will conclude with a lunch and the chance for attendees to meet with state legislators to discuss veterans’ concerns and needs.

“I am grateful that we are able to meet in the Statehouse again this year,” Bartlett said. “Being able to host our state’s veterans in-person and allow them to experience the legislative process up close is an invaluable opportunity. I strongly encourage my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to seize this opportunity and meet with the many veterans and active servicemen who will travel from all corners of the state to be here. I myself look forward to meeting with those who have served our state and nation proudly and to learning how this legislative body can better serve them and their families.”

“I am extremely proud to be a part of this monumental Statehouse recognition,” Pack said. “As a Gulf War Army veteran who proudly served to protect, it is especially gratifying to celebrate our troops, past and present, during our Military Veterans Legislative Day.”

“It is always enjoyable to celebrate Military Veterans Legislative Day,” Tomes said. “This provides a tremendous opportunity to meet face to face with those serving and who have served this great nation.”
