IHDC supports teachers calling for increase in pay at Statehouse
News & Media
Members of the Indiana House Democratic Caucus attended the “Red for Ed” Rally hosted by the Indiana State Teachers Association on Saturday, March 9 at the Statehouse.
The rally drew thousands of educators from across the state and much needed attention to an important issue: increasing teacher pay NOW in Indiana.
Indiana House Democrats:
- Supported a proposal that would increase pay for Indiana teachers NOW by setting a minimum teacher salary of $40,000 statewide.
- Outlined a plan for the state budget that would include enough dollars to provide 5 percent pay increases for teachers over the next two years.
House Republicans and Governor Holcomb:
- Proposed increases in public school funding below the rate of inflation.
- Failed to allocate any funding to increase pay for teachers.
Indiana House Democrats will remain vigilant in addressing the need to adequately fund our public schools and increase teacher pay so that our children receive a high-quality education in every classroom across our state.
