House endorses GiaQuinta bill to encourage tourism at state inns
INDIANAPOLIS – Inns located on state property would be allowed to sell alcohol on their premises under legislation coauthored by State Rep. Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne).
The Indiana House passed House Bill 1116 today, which allows the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to permit the retail sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption on the licensed premises of an inn if the owners apply for and secure all of the necessary permits.
“This bill will help encourage more Hoosiers to go visit these locations around our state, while aiding economic development by generating more revenue through these inns,” said GiaQuinta.
GiaQuinta hopes that by allowing owners of these inns to engage with private partners to sell alcoholic beverages on their land, the locations will generate more customers and encourage tourism.
“The DNR has been looking to expand their services and this bill will give them the ability to work with outside parties to increase tourism and revenue,” said GiaQuinta.
The bill now moves to the Indiana Senate.
