House Democrats dismayed as Statehouse Republicans walk back promises to Indiana school districts
INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne) released the following statement regarding Senate President Pro Tempore Rodric Bray's recent letter to public school superintendents:
“I was extremely disappointed and dismayed to see Senator Bray and Statehouse Republicans renege on Indiana's previous commitment to our public school districts regarding e-learning,” said GiaQuinta. “These districts are being forced to strike an impossible balance between providing the best education to their students while protecting the health and safety of teachers, students and community members. For Indiana Republicans to threaten massive cuts to districts who might have already decided that going fully virtual is best for their community is reckless and irresponsible, especially this late in the year and when cases are on the rise.
“Quite frankly, these are the kind of Washington D.C. political games that Hoosiers are sick of and they have real-life consequences. Indiana House Democrats stand ready to fully fund and support our local school districts so that they can best overcome the serious challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
