Hatcher appointed to Indiana Commission on Equity and Access in the Court System
INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. Ragen Hatcher (D-Gary) last week was appointed to the Indiana Commission on Equity and Access in the Court System by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Loretta Rush.
The Indiana Commission on Equity and Access in the Court System is tasked with providing an independent and comprehensive review of Indiana's state court systems, policies and practices, identifying areas of strength and areas where additional efforts are needed in order to achieve greater and more equal access to justice, and establishing workgroups to provide recommendations on ways to address those identified issues within Indiana's legal system.
The commission must submit a written report of its findings to the Indiana Supreme Court by December 31, 2022.
“I am honored to have been selected to serve on this historic commission,” Hatcher said.
“Racial disparities in our justice system have devastated countless Hoosier lives. I am proud to see our state's highest court making this issue a priority and taking real action to correct it. I look forward to working with my fellow members of the commission to make Indiana a more equitable and just state.”
The commission's first meeting is currently set for October 13, 2021.
