Harvest Feast musical groups announced

News & Media

INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. Vernon G. Smith (D-Gary) announced the gospel groups and soloists who will perform at the annual Harvest Feast, now celebrating its 26th year.

The event will begin at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 17 at the New Shiloh Baptist Church, 1727 W. 15th Ave., in Gary.

CeCe & Company, the Johnson Family, Whosoever Will Gospel Choir, and soloist David Gullett are scheduled to participate in the Harvest Feast religious service.

Dr. Smith describes the Harvest Feast as a warm gathering of Gary community citizens, especially senior citizens and those with no family in the area. These individuals share a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and enjoy gospel music performances. Dr. Smith said all Gary community residents are welcome.

The church service begins at 6 p.m. with the Thanksgiving meal following. The feast will feature all of the traditional trimmings, including turkey, dressing, beef roast, macaroni and cheese, green beans, greens, mashed potatoes, and dessert. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Smith said donations and volunteers are needed and essential for the Harvest Feast. He is seeking help with the setup, preparation of food, the serving of the meal, and the cleanup. To donate or for more information about volunteering, please call him at 219.887.2046.

Dr. Smith organizes and hosts the event every year as a memorial to his mother, the Rev. Julia E. Smith, former pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, and his aunt, Magnolia Allen.
