GiaQuinta to host tree giveaway this weekend

INDIANAPOLIS – House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne) will be distributing 100 free tree seedlings at the Fort Wayne Farmers Market this Saturday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at McCulloch Park (1795 Broadway Ave.) in an effort to aid Indiana's reforestation push.

In 1973, the Indiana legislature passed a law to provide support in Indiana's reforestation efforts by having the state nursery distribute free seedlings to each senator and representative for the purpose of informing citizens in his or her districts about the value of planting trees.

“This annual event is one of my favorites as a state legislator because it allows me to meet with families in the community and provide an activity they can all do together,” GiaQuinta said. “Planting a tree is an easy thing to do, but its impact will last for generations. I'm looking forward to reconnecting with my constituents and starting conversations about how we can improve the Fort Wayne area through actions like these.”

This year, the tree options will be Red Oak, Tulip and Sycamore and they will be available on a first-come, first-served basis with a limit of one seedling per household.
