GiaQuinta relieved by recent education funding maneuver
INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne) released the following statement regarding the State Board of Education's recent action on protecting school funding amid the COVID-19 pandemic:
“Though the issue of funding schools 100 percent during a global pandemic should have never been up for debate, I am pleased that the State Board of Education could find a workaround to protect schools from losing the funds promised to them for the Fall,” GiaQuinta said. “Ever since Indiana Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray sent his brash letter, my colleagues and I have been imploring the administration to resolve this funding glitch for the students, teachers and faculty of schools at risk of losing vital resources.
“House Democrats understand the delicate balance schools have to strike while we navigate these unprecedented times and it is a relief that they will not have to add a question of funding to the growing list of things to consider when making their decisions. It is integral that schools retain the flexibility to rework their in-person, virtual and hybrid methods of instruction whenever necessary in order to keep our communities safe. In the upcoming legislative session, my colleagues and I will continue to support fully funding schools that opt for virtual learning during this time.”
