GiaQuinta issues statement regarding Roe v. Wade news

INDIANAPOLIS - Please see the statement below from Leader Phil Gia Quinta (D-Fort Wayne) regarding recent Roe v. Wade news: 

“Like many, I was deeply troubled to see the Supreme Court’s draft of the Roe v. Wade decision and the ramifications it could have to women all over the country. The result of losing 50 years of federal abortion protections means lawmakers and advocates at all levels of government must fight to maintain a woman’s right to choose. Over 88% of Hoosiers think individuals should have the freedom to decide if and when to have children, with a majority of people believing that includes equal access to a safe abortion.

“House Democrats will remain vigilant as we await a final decision from the Court as Republicans urge the Governor for a special session. We cannot go backwards, especially as a state with some of the most abysmal maternal and infant health outcomes.”
