GiaQuinta celebrates passage of sponsored bill to empower local business out of the House
Today (Feb. 19), Senate Bill 58 passed out of the Indiana House of Representatives. Sponsored by House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne), SB 58 will create a definition of a “specialty or gourmet market” in Indiana code. This will allow businesses like Antonuccio’s Italian Market, a Fort Wayne small business that sells a variety of Italian culinary goods including alcohol, to sell alcohol in carryout sales.
GiaQuinta issued the following statement upon the passage of SB 58:
“It is always my goal to represent the city of Fort Wayne well and offer pragmatic solutions to the problems our community is facing. Antonuccio’s Italian Market is a beloved District 80 small business that fills a unique niche in our community, but they have run into barriers under the current retail permitting rules. It is my hope that the ‘gourmet market’ designation that will now apply to them will help them thrive now and into the future.”
SB 58 was amended in the House, meaning that it needs to be deliberated upon further in the Indiana Senate.
