Garcia Wilburn applauds FTC ruling banning most noncompetes

Tuesday (April 23), the Federal Trade Commission finalized a new rule to promote competition by banning most noncompete agreements, which are used to restrict employees from leaving one company to work for another competing company. This will grant more American workers the freedom to pursue employment that pays and treats them the best.

State Rep. Victoria Garcia Wilburn (D-Fishers) released the following statement applauding the decision:

“Noncompetes stifle competition, keep worker pay down and hamper market innovation. I am grateful the Federal Trade Commission is cracking down on this antiquated practice that does not serve workers and their interests. During Indiana's 2023 legislative session, I voted for Senate Enrolled Act 7, which bans primary care physicians from being forced to enter noncompete agreements. While that was one small step to make healthcare work better for patients and providers, I will continue looking for ways to keep costs low and promote competition in Indiana's healthcare system. Ultimately, banning noncompetes benefits workers, businesses and the economy – all wins in my book.”
