State representatives from Fort Wayne invite college students and recent college graduates to apply for internships with the Indiana House Democratic Caucus. The internships will span the upcoming legislative session running from January through March 2024 and take place in Indianapolis at the Indiana Statehouse.

“An internship for the House Democratic Caucus is an excellent opportunity to learn more about state and local government and hone a wide range of skills that will help college students whether they find themselves working in politics long-term or take a different professional path,” House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne) said. “Countless Statehouse interns have gone on to have a significant impact on Indiana, and I encourage any college student looking for a new, exciting opportunity to apply.”

Interested candidates may apply for internships focused on constituent services, fiscal analysis, graphic and print design, the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus, media relations and policy and legislative research. Interns will receive a biweekly stipend of $900 and the chance to earn academic credit (dependent on each intern’s college). This is a full-time internship of 37.5 hours per week.

“Being an intern for the House Democratic Caucus is an invaluable experience, both for the intern and legislators,” Rep. Kyle Miller (D-Fort Wayne) said. “In addition to being paid for the work they do, interns are also gaining job experience and building their network for future opportunities. Many interns have gone on to work in other government sectors, full-time work with the House Democratic Caucus, or even become legislators themselves. I would encourage anyone interested in government or politics to apply for an internship with the House Democratic Caucus.”

No specific major is required for this internship. Students must be at least a sophomore. Applications will be accepted through Oct. 31, with a priority deadline of Oct. 15. More information and a link to apply can be found on the Indiana House Democrats' website.
