Fleming celebrates Origin Park grant, looking forward to the future
Today, Oct. 27, the State Budget Committee approved the General Assembly's allocation of $37.5 million to River Heritage Conservancy for the Origin Park Outdoor Adventure Center. The funding will be used for land acquisition, environmental site assessments, design and construction. Since its inception in 2016, the park has completed its first phase of construction.
State Rep. Rita Fleming (D-Jeffersonville) released the following celebratory statement:
“This funding will have a tremendous positive impact on our community. Our area has been growing for the past decade. Origin Park will continue to foster that growth and will secure additional economic development. The project will create over 3,226 new jobs, increase local home values and encourage tourism. A total of $256 million will be generated in economic output, which is a triumph for our region. I cannot emphasize enough how much this project will benefit our district.
“As a longtime resident of Jeffersonville, it’s exciting to see such a massive parks and recreation project. Origin Park will clean up sites along the Ohio River Valley and conserve its natural biodiversity. I spend as much time as possible outdoors, and so does most of our community. In Southern Indiana we take pride in nature and avidly hunt, fish and hike. I believe that Origin Park combines our passion for the outdoors with economic benefit. I’m thankful for the State's support for our region, and I’m looking forward to the park's completion.”
