Errington to host medical cannabis Community Talking Circle
INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. Sue Errington (D-Muncie) will host a Community Talking Circle in Muncie next Monday (Dec. 6) to hear public feedback on legalizing medical cannabis in Indiana.
Last week, the Indiana State Democratic Party announced its support for cannabis legalization in Indiana and its intent to push for recreational and medical marijuana legalization for those 21 and older during the 2022 Legislative Session. Errington, a longtime supporter of medical cannabis legalization, saw this new push as an opportunity to reignite the conversation she's been fighting to have in the legislature for years.
36 states, including neighboring states Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio, currently allow for adult medical cannabis use. Cannabis legalization is gaining public support, with eight out of ten Hoosiers polling in favor of legalization of recreational or medical cannabis.
“The reality is that medical cannabis is becoming an accepted and preferred method of treatment throughout the country,” Errington said.
“Medical cannabis is a safe, non-addictive alternative to opioids that could benefit Hoosiers who live with chronic pain and anxiety disorders, including our brave veterans who struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder. Those who have sacrificed so much for our state deserve an effective treatment for their pain, rather than a potential criminal record.
“I encourage anyone interested, whether in support or opposition of legalization, to attend our Community Talking Circle so that we can have a full, open conversation. The General Assembly needs to hear your voice as we consider legalization in the upcoming legislative session.”
