INDIANAPOLIS – Today, Indiana University and Purdue University announced a plan to transform IUPUI into “Indiana University Indianapolis.” State Rep. Ed DeLaney (D-Indianapolis) released the following statement celebrating the announcement:

“This plan is a momentous step toward a stronger campus identity and future for Indianapolis. I intend to continue to work with both parties in the legislature to provide additional funding for Indiana University Indianapolis and our other higher education institutions.

“Decades ago, I chose to make Indianapolis my home. I have been gratified by its growth. I hope this realignment will encourage students to stay in the community after they graduate and give Indianapolis a true ‘flagship’ university.

“Thank you to IU President Pamela Whitten, Purdue President Mitch Daniels and incoming Purdue President Mung Chiang for their vision in moving forward Indianapolis’ place in the higher education and workforce development landscape.”
