DeLaney comments on Gov. Holcomb’s budget
INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. Ed DeLaney (D-Indianapolis) offered the following statement in regards to Gov. Eric Holcomb's 2023 budget proposal, which was announced January 4th:
“It's nice to see that Indiana Republicans are finally admitting that the state surplus (the rainy day fund) might be overflowing. My hope is that we can allocate a generous portion of funds to Indiana public schools as opposed to writing a blank check to bolster charter schools and voucher programs, while 'reinventing high school.' This budget proposal entrusts divided Republicans with a lot of money. We need to control spending by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. We need to look into increasing the cigarette tax to fund public health. It's up to Indiana Democrats to be the watch dogs. I, for one, plan to take on that challenge.”
