Pierce: Closing the school funding gap in Indiana

Local schools will receive the amount of funding they originally expected from last year’s budget bill as a result of House Bill 1001, which I co-authored. The bipartisan law provides $100 million to school corporations throughout the state over the next two years to close a funding gap created when 6,300 more students than projected enrolled in public schools this year. The funding shortfall would have cost the Monroe County Community School Corporation more than $220,000.
