Cervical cancer prevention efforts signed into law
The Indiana Cancer Consortium asserts cervical cancer is almost 100% preventable, yet in 2013, 255 new cases were diagnosed in Indiana.
The legislature voted unanimously to take steps that I believe will both prevent cervical cancer and improve treatment options. The new law, which I co-authored, will result in a strategic plan to identify ways we can improve awareness, prevention, screening and treatment of the disease. I was proud to be a part of the great bipartisan effort that resulted in this common-sense new law and pleased to attend the signing ceremony for this legislation held by Governor Holcomb at the Statehouse in April.
