Candelaria Reardon goes “Over the Edge” to support working families in Northwest Indiana
State Rep. Mara Candelaria Reardon (D-Munster) will rappel down the Centier Corporate Centre in Merrillville tomorrow, Saturday, October 12 as part of the Over the Edge event to support struggling working families in Lake County.
Candelaria Reardon—who is sponsored by Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma, Matt Brooks, President and CEO of Indiana Council of Community Mental Health Centers, Inc., Scott Carr, Associate at Catalyst Public Affairs Group, the Indiana Hospital Association, the Automobile Dealers Association, and the Indiana Bankers Association—is raising money to benefit Mental Health America of Northwest Indiana.
“I’m participating in this event to support the 1 in 4 working families in Lake County who carry the burden of not being able to afford basic necessities like safe housing, reliable transportation, health care, quality child care and healthy food for their family,” said Candelaria Reardon.
“Being stressed about the financial security, health and safety of your family can take a mental toll on you. I’m participating in this event to make sure Mental Health American of Northwest Indiana has the resources it needs to care for our families in crisis,” she continued.
“I also want our families in Lake County who are struggling to know that they have a community of people and organizations here to help them. Hopefully, this awesome event also sparks a conversation about what we can do to help working families succeed in Northwest Indiana and across our state.”
The goal is to raise 100,000 from the Over the Edge event that will help these six agencies in Lake County meet the needs of struggling families: Lake Area United Way, The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Northwest Indiana, Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana, Mental Health America of Northwest Indiana and Tradewinds Services, Inc.
