Campbell welcomes generational 4 billion dollar investment in West Lafayette
Yesterday, April 3, Governor Eric Holcomb, Secretary of Commerce David Rosenberg, West Lafayette Mayor Erin Easter and Purdue officials joined federal partners and executives from South Korea-based SK hynix incorporated. SK hynix is the leading manufacturer of High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) chips which are used in semiconductor engineering. The company announced its intentions to build a new advanced packaging fabrication and R & D facility for high-intensity and AI microelectronic products and applications in West Lafayette. This multi-billion-dollar investment is the first of its kind in the United States.
State Rep. Chris Campbell (D- West Lafayette) released the following statement:
“This investment will have a tremendous impact on our community. West Lafayette has always been a center of innovation, and we will continue to be at the forefront of technology through this plant. I cannot emphasize enough how much this project will benefit workers in our district. SK hynix will create 800 to 1,000 jobs with ‘competitive’ salaries. I know the talent and technological expertise in our community will rise to the occasion.
“As a longtime resident of West Lafayette and Purdue alumni, I look forward to the partnership between our area and this company. In Tippecanoe County, we’ve been very concerned about outsourcing our natural resources for industrial development. I hope SK hynix makes good on its multiple environmental promises, including water process reduction and recycling, for the well-being of our groundwater system. I’m proud our community was selected for this investment which is the first of its kind in the United States.”
