Campbell supports 13th Check and COLA: “We need to support seniors on fixed incomes”
Members of the House Ways and Means Committee passed House Bill 1004 out of committee. This bill, if passed, would provide a 13th check to Teachers Retirement Fund and Public Retirement Fund retirees. State Rep. Chris Campbell (D-West Lafayette) issued the following statement in support of this bill:
“Our retirees deserve a 13th check and a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) which is something the legislature failed to do last year. We’re battling some of the highest rates of inflation we’ve seen in years. Housing prices have increased, groceries are expensive and gas prices are relatively high. Our retirees – who are living on fixed incomes – need the extra financial support to survive. We must take care of our retirees by providing those eligible with a 13th check and COLA.
“The 13th check and COLA is an issue that House Democrats are fighting for this session. I’m thankful for the bipartisan support we’ve seen from across the aisle. I look forward to working with my colleagues to support our retirees who’ve worked hard for their communities.”
