Campbell; “Our most vunerable groups shouldn’t bear the brunt of a math error”
Last week, the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) announced potential changes to their Aged and Disability Waivers. The proposed changes could result in thousands of people losing essential funding, benefits and attendant care. The FSSA proposed the following changes to cut costs following the $1 billion Medicaid shortfall.
State Rep. Chris Campbell (D-West Lafayette) released the following statement:
“It’s well-known that Indiana is facing a health care provider shortage. It’s difficult to find at-home nurses for our medically complex children and our elderly. Hoosier families have filled this gap by providing care for them at home. Through Medicaid waivers, individuals providing at-home care themselves have received financial support. Many Hoosier families rely on this funding as their sole source of income as providing round-the-clock care to a loved one leaves little room for a part-time job. This funding makes it possible for caretakers to pay their bills, buy groceries, prescriptions and other necessities. That’s why these Medicaid waivers are essential to the well-being of our families. I fear that without this funding people may lose their jobs or be forced into poverty.
“Our most vulnerable groups should not bear the brunt of the Medicaid shortfall. We at the legislature must do everything we can to support our Medicaid beneficiaries. They should not suffer due to the GOP's math error.”
