Bauer, Niezgodski call to action: Speak out against unresolved apartment issues

Last week, State Sen. David Niezgodski (D-South Bend) and State Rep. Maureen Bauer (D- South Bend) joined together to send a letter to Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita urging an expedited investigation into the Cedar Glen Apartment complex and the fatal house fire on LaPorte Ave.

Sen. Niezgodski and Rep. Bauer issued the following joint statement after the office of the Attorney General confirmed receipt of the letter:

“The office of the Attorney General gave us their word that they are taking steps to address the concerns of landlord/tenant issues facing Cedar Glen Apartments appropriately and promptly upon receipt of our letter.

“We would also like to urge those residing in Beacon Heights, Karl King Riverbend Tower, or any complex with living conditions that place their quality of life in jeopardy to file a complaint. Our ultimate goal is to ensure the health and well-being of tenants in South Bend. We implore you to speak out if you are facing issues such as loss of heat, loss of hot water, maintenance issues left unresolved, and any other apartment problems.

“We strongly encourage any impacted resident or stakeholder to submit a consumer complaint to the office of the Attorney General.  That can be found electronically here:  https://www.in.gov/attorneygeneral/consumer-protection-division/consumer-complaint/.
