Bauer comments on veto override ending local COVID-19 health orders

INDIANAPOLIS – State Representative Maureen Bauer (D-South Bend) released the following statement after the veto override of Senate Enrolled Act 5, preventing local officials from enacting health orders stricter than the state during times of emergency:
“By overriding the veto on SEA 5, the Indiana General Assembly has taken away the ability for local health departments to act swiftly and make lifesaving decisions in times of crisis. These health officials bring much-needed local expertise to the conversation. The legislature should be working with them instead of hindering their efforts, and playing politics with people’s healthcare.”
