Bartlett selected Caucus Chairman for the Indiana House Democratic Caucus

INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. John Bartlett (D-Indianapolis) has been selected by Indiana House Democrats to serve as their caucus chairman during the 2017-18 sessions of the Indiana General Assembly.

Bartlett, who has been a member of the Indiana House since 2007, was chosen caucus chairman for a second time by his colleagues during the group’s organizational meeting today in Indianapolis. In his post, Bartlett will lead activities conducted by the caucus and chair all group caucuses.

“John Bartlett has been a welcome addition to the House Democratic leadership team,” said House Democratic Leader Scott Pelath from Michigan City. “John is a fighter and a lawmaker devoted to doing what’s right for the people he represents, and speaking out against the unjust. I look forward to taking full advantage of his wise counsel as we begin our work in the 2017 session of the Legislature.”

Bartlett, who represents House District 95, came to the Indiana House when he filled a vacancy left by the resignation of Mae Dickinson.

A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Bartlett is a retired tool–and–die maker for the Rolls–Royce Corporation, where he had worked for 42 years.

He is a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School and went on to graduate from Martin University and attend Ivy Tech.

Outside of his legislative responsibilities, Bartlett was a past chairman of the Martin University Board of Trustees. He also serves as president of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists and was a past president of the Devington Community Development Corporation. He was a founding member of the Sheridan Heights Association for Neighborhood Enhancement (SHANE), served on the NAACP Executive Committee, and was a past chairman of the Civil Rights Council for United Auto Workers Region Three.
