Bartlett cosponsors 2nd Indiana Military & Veterans Legislative Day
INDIANAPOLIS — The second Indiana Military & Veterans Legislative Day at the Statehouse, cosponsored by State Rep. John Bartlett (D-Indianapolis), was a success as lawmakers gathered to support Indiana veterans.
The event gives veterans a chance to communicate with lawmakers about important topics such as education, employment and other issues they face during and following their military service.
“This event gives military personnel and veterans the opportunity to interact with the legislative body,” said Bartlett. “Lawmakers can meet with veterans to learn what issues are really important to them and what hopes they have for the state of Indiana.”
Though this is only the second year for the event, it has grown considerably.
“We had a wonderful turnout this year,” said Bartlett. “The event has grown enormously from last year and I look forward to watching it continue to grow in the coming years.
“It was amazing to see so many veterans and military personnel here today,” continued Bartlett. “The support of the governor, house speaker and the legislative body speaks volumes about the respect we have for Indiana veterans.”
Bartlett said he hopes this event will help spur lawmakers to pass legislation to help veterans such as the removal of taxes from military pensions.
