Ball State University Receives Funding to Expand and Renovate Emens Auditorium
INDIANAPOLIS— State Rep. Sue Errington (D-Muncie) announced today that the State Budget Committee has approved $5 million in funding to renovate and expand Emens Auditorium at Ball State University.
Approval came during the committee’s monthly business meeting today at the Indiana Statehouse.
“Emens Auditorium has served as a mainstage for the university and community since opening in 1964, hosting lecturers, artists and entertainers,” said Errington. “The renovations will help the university better accommodate the crowds that gather for the many graduations, concerts, recitals and convocations that are held at the venue.”
Changes to the facility will occur on all levels. The first floor level will see an expansion of the lobby, new restrooms and the relocation of the box office. The second floor will be expanded to include a hospitality room, food staging area and other support space. Some interior renovations will occur as well.
Prior to this expansion and renovation, the facility saw only minor renovations to the seating arena and some technical upgrades to the theatrical system.
“I am so pleased that this funding was approved,” said Errington. “This facility has seen no major renovations for 50 years. The expansion will help ensure that the university can continue to host world-class individuals to present to their students as well as guarantee that the community can continue to enjoy the facility.”
The $5 million needed to complete the expansion will be funded from private gifts received by the university and the internal university reserve fund.
