$22 million secured for Blumberg Hall renovation project

INDIANAPOLIS – State Rep. Clyde Kersey (D-Terre Haute) said the Indiana State Budget Committee approved a $22 million renovation of Blumberg Hall on the Indiana State University (ISU) campus during the committee’s meeting today (Oct. 17) in Richmond.

“This is a major project that will include a new air-conditioning system, new doors, a new fire suppression system, new lighting, and a new mechanical system for the residence hall,” explained Kersey. “The ISU officials told State Budget Committee members that the renovation will provide a total of 366 beds. Blumberg Hall has been around for 50 years, so it holds great memories for thousands of ISU alumni.

“ISU has been doing some great things,” continued Kersey. “And young people around Indiana have noticed. The university’s enrollment continues to grow. In fact, it is now greater than 12,000. The popularity and great numbers of students require new structures to be built as well as the renovation of existing buildings to meet the demand. I am appreciative the State Budget Committee members have approved this investment in the university and that they realize the importance of ISU to our state and our community.”

Blumberg Hall is named after Benjamin & Fannie B. Blumberg, who were civically active residents of Vigo County. They were benefactors of several projects for youth. Blumberg Hall was dedicated on Nov. 1, 1964.
